A new Australian play about what it means to be a man.
Could you do me a favour? Could you say I'm an interesting man?
Cynical, burnt-out and sick with heartbreak, twentysomething Dylan is going through it. Stuck living with their overbearing mum, Christine, and failing their Honours year, they are sure they will never become the man they want to be. Then, they meet Rebecca: a beguiling, beautiful, life-changing lover –who just so happens to be Christine's best friend.
From acclaimed emerging playwright Zadie Kennedy Mccracken, SMOTHER is a brutally honest depiction of family, intimacy, and masculinity. Exploring the harrowing consequences of controversial love and the surreal experiences of transitioning, this brilliant new Australian work comes from a team of Naarm's best emerging theatre-makers.
