Applying to venues can be an overwhelming process, especially when you're unsure what programming teams are looking for, how your application compares to others, or even where to begin. Whether you're an early-career artist or simply new to venue applications, this workshop is designed to demystify the process and help you approach it with clarity and confidence.
In this practical, hands-on session, we’ll break down the fundamentals of pitching your work and give you the tools and templates you need to put your best foot forward. You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of how to frame your project, what supporting material actually looks like, and how to tailor your application for success.
This workshop will cover:
How to pitch your show: what makes your work stand out?
A breakdown of the 2026 Theatre Works Venue Application process
What counts as effective support material—and how to create it
An overview of different kinds of applications (residencies, programming, grants) and how to know what’s right for your project
A networking lunch to connect with fellow artists and practice speaking about your work in a low-pressure setting
Dedicated time to begin developing application materials, with space for feedback and guidance
This is a space for questions, clarity, and connection. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to take the next step in your practice, you’ll leave with the confidence to pitch your work—and the tools to back it up.
What to Bring:
A laptop or device with internet access
There are a few different ways you can approach this workshop, depending on where you're at:
If you're ready to pitch a show and want to develop the tools to support it, bring along any materials you’ve already started—drafts, notes, blurbs, images, or anything else
If you're still between ideas and just here to learn, bring a device so you can take notes and practise creating documents during the session.
Come as you are—this space is designed to support artists at all stages.
