PORTRAITS will paint a poetic and deliciously human picture of Melbourne through the theatrical transformation of the personal stories of its visitors, residents, leaders and workers.
Melbourne Playback Theatre Company draws stories from their audience to shape a live performance that illuminates the diversity, complexity and beauty of the individual narratives that make up this community. What emerges is funny and revealing performance enriched by the company’s well-honed skills as a physical ensemble.
Based on a conviction that both individuals and communities deepen and grow through the opportunity to exchange and explore stories, PORTRAITS creates a bridge between the individual and their community.
For over 30 years, this highly skilled group of actors and musicians has used the ritual of storytelling, the inspiration of improvisation and the alchemy of theatre to express both the universal and the persona.
"...seethes with breath-catching moments of insight and an unscripted emotional intelligence..."
"Enriching and fun... the ensemble operates like a well-oiled machine, the improvisation is terrifically skilled."
