Midnight Carousel

30 OCTOBER - 9 NOVEMBER | EXPLOSIVES FACTORY
Midnight Carousel

VENUE

by nick jay

Embark on a journey atop the canopy of a broken carousel, soaring through the wide cosmos and delving into the depths of the human heart. Midnight Carousel tells the story of a young poet chronicling the extensive history of a ruined ride, and its quiet companion for a near half century - an ageing night watchman. The watchman's lifetime dedication to the park frames a romantic view of history, but clashes with a younger generation's disillusionment. Can the poet discover the magic lost to time, or will the watchman realise that the world is no longer as it once was?

Written by emerging playwright, Nick Jay as part of Theatre Works’ FRESHWORKS program, and backed by a team of experienced creatives, who brought you MOTHERLOD_^E and The World According to Dinosaurs (Frenzy Theatre Co. 2023), Midnight Carousel’s unique blend of surrealism, nostalgia, and cosmic wonder creates an impressive visual and auditory spectacle that celebrates the old and new, hope and pain, and the extraordinary in the ordinary.
