Songs of the Flesh
VENUE
based on texts by chris beckey
The Danger Ensemble (Day After Terrible Day, The Hamlet Apocalypse) return to Theatre Works with this highly physical, deeply intimate and queer-as-fuck tour de force.
Songs of the Flesh is contemporary theatre at its finest, a coming-of-age fairy tale cum punk-tragedy that follows a young man and his exhaustive pursuit for the name of his love. He searches through the pages of fables, history, literature until he finally finds it in The Bible and then deep within his own flesh.
Beneath the skin lie histories that are not our own: lessons learnt through centuries, the violence, the punishments, the pleasures, the shaping of flesh into body. It whispers to us: Come close, I will tell you my stories, my secrets, the crimes committed against me, all that I have seen. Do we dare to listen?
