playwriting festival by the she writes collective

For 7 days when the St Kilda Autumn leaves fall our Radical Acts Playwriting Festival drops. There you’ll find our She Writes Collective immersed in a series of dialogues, workshops and mentoring. The festival will culminate in the writers sharing excerpts of their new plays with audiences in public play-readings followed by in-conversations with their directors. Climb inside each writer’s mind in a collection of intimate discussions on the radical act of playwriting; how they go about it, why they do it, and the unique genesis for each of their works.

Past mentors and industry guests have included Michele Lee, Zoey Dawson, Stephen Nicolazzo, Amelia Evans, Morgan Rose, Fleur Kilpatrick, Angela Betzien, Annie Bourke, Tanya Gerstle, Petra Kalive, Alyson Campbell, Andrea James, Laura Milke, Sam Strong and Kamarra Bell-Wykes.

This festival was made possible with the generous support of City of Port Philip, Besen Foundation, Malcom Robertson Foundation, Creative Victoria and Palais Theatre.

MEET THE ARTIST -
SHE WRITES COLLECTIVE

She Writes is a writing program for emerging and early-career female-identifying and non-binary playwrights. This program offers participating writers support networks and professional development to generate the next wave of unique performance writing. Theatre Works partners with both Victorian College of the Arts dramaturgy graduates and independent dramaturges for this project, to actively collaborate on real-world playwriting, to establish professional relationships whilst developing the new generation of dynamic new work.
