Prophet
VENUE
by jodi gallagher
“All that is solid melts into air, all that is sacred is profaned.”
A man returns to his broken city from a devastating war. He brings home a vision of the end of the world. In the middle of the banalities of everyday life and political expediency, events converge on a single point of violent action.
Prophet explores lovers, mothers, sons, fathers and politics in the end times. Prophet is about faith, and love, and belief, and all their infinite variations. It draws on a range of eclectic sources – the aftermath of disasters, the exploitation of tragedies, the history of prophecy, the fate of messiahs. The form is fragmented and broken, like the world we confront right now. Prophet speaks to the times we live in, and speculates about what is to come.
