The team behind Theatre Works 2022 hit, MEDEA: Out of the Mouths of Babes bring to life Australia’s most-loved play Michael Gow’s Away.
A uniquely Australian look at small families and their epic stories, Shakespearean in structure but deeply personal in tone, Michael Gow’s Away is a masterpiece of Australian writing that explores how we as Ozzies living in a tropical paradise, endure all of our storms.
At the peak of summer 1967, the Vietnam War continues, we follow three separate suburban families as they pack-up their prawns and head for the Gold Coast to celebrate Christmas until a seemingly magical tempest enmeshes them, only to fall apart, fall together and fall in love.
Directed by award-winning Director, Steven Mitchell Wright, Theatre Works’ Away promises to be a highlight on all of our 2023 theatrical calendars.

Michael Gow
Michael Gow is one of Australia’s greatest playwrights. His plays include the Australian classic Away, Toy Symphony, The Kid, On Top of the World, Europe, Sweet Phoebe, Live Acts on Stage, 17 (for the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain) and Once in Royal David’s City. His plays have been performed in Poland, the Czech Republic, Vietnam, Japan and all over the US.
