I recently attended Soldier Boy at Theatre Works and was deeply moved by Oliver Tapp's portrayal of young Jim Martin. As someone with a grandfather who served in war, the raw emotion of the mother-son scenes resonated profoundly with me. The immersive staging transported me to the trenches, with Sidney Younger's lighting and Jack Burmeister's sound design creating an atmosphere that was both haunting and authentic. After such an emotional theatrical experience, I needed something lighter to balance my mood - playing a few rounds of Block Blast on my phone during the train ride home provided the perfect mindless entertainment.
