In today's Backstage at Fringe, we speak to Noah Skape about Noah Skape's Human Entertainment, which comes to Explosives Factory next week as part of our Melbourne Fringe Festival Hub!
Noah Skape's Human Entertainment is a punk rock operetta about an ADHD outsider struggling to comprehend his place in life and society. Set somewhere in between reality and 90's free-to-air television, it's a cartoonish nightmare sequence about purpose and belonging, told with comedy-adjacent skits and arena-adjacent rock songs.
Q: Welcome to Theatre Works! How are preparations going so far?
NOAH: We are ready to get sweaty, noisy and weird. Luggage is packed, I'm also in the cast for the Australian tour of Monty Python's Spamalot that's playing right now at the Athenaeum so I'm show fit. Also, Kochie still hasn't heard about this show so we're good to go.
Q: You're sitting in a bar on a warm October night. Eyes drifting across the room, softly swirling your drink in your hands, and bam. There they are. Your exact target audience member. Can you describe them?
NOAH: As soon as they enter the room they freeze in a poorly masked panic. Their eyes dart all over, either trying to remember why they are there or now attempting to make sense of everything they are seeing. We bond over our mutual confusion. Also they like punk rock, cartoons, and obscure comedy.
Q: What will audiences find in your show that they can't find anywhere else at Fringe?
NOAH: A punk rock theatrical clown.
Q: What will surprise audiences about this work?
NOAH: Finding out what punk rock theatrical clowning is.
Q: What has been the most memorable moment in your process so far?
NOAH: Winning the Martin Sims Award at Perth FRINGE WORLD 2026
