We Have the Keys… But We Need Your Help to Finish the Build!

After years of planning, designing, and negotiating, we are thrilled to announce that this week, Theatre Works will finally receive the keys to our brand-new backstage building!

This is a monumental moment for independent theatre in Australia—a fully accessible, purpose-built rehearsal space, dressing rooms, and set workshop that will transform the way artists create and perform at Theatre Works.

But here’s the reality: we’ve had to make some heart-breaking cuts to bring this project within budget. The cost of construction post-COVID skyrocketed beyond our initial funding, and while we fought to keep the integrity of the build intact, we’ve had to strip away essential elements—things like floor coverings, cabinetry, a kitchen,  internal painting, workshop shelving and security elements like external lighting.

Without these final touches, our beautiful new space is incomplete.

That’s where you come in.

We need to raise $103,144 to fully fit out the building and make it a truly functional, artist-ready space. Every dollar helps—whether it’s towards a dressing room mirror, a kitchen for our artists, or a sprung floor for rehearsals.
