Earl becomes obsessed with a handful of letters depicting a life and a kind of ordinariness he has never known. He drags Rose and Frogman off in search of the author and, in the process, imprisons Rose and brutalises the townsfolk.

"Kenneth MacLeod as Earl gave a strong powerful performance as the tall, handsome magician obsessed with misery."
