REMEMBER RONALD RYAN follows the final days of Ronald Joseph Ryan, the last man hanged in Australia at Pentridge Prison in 1967, exploring the events behind his death and questioning the extent that Ryan was a victim of political pressure and his time. The case divided Australia and the degree of public sympathy that existed was evident in the 3000 protesters who chanted and booed outside Pentridge that night and the 91 protesters that were arrested in the emotion charged days leading to his death.
Playwright Barry Dickens depicts Ryan for what he really was – a poor, charismatic, literate, clever, bungling, courageous bank robber who was murdered by the government.
