A Christmas present devised, rehearsed and performed in 10 days.
LUNA CLOWN, a powerful and hilarious theatrical mosaic featuring an array of local artists.
Devised by Zeal Theatre director, Stefo Nantsou, LUNA CLOWN is a collaboration between professional and non-professional actors and musicians, that interweaves two tales of reuniting families.
The first, follows an entire clan as they converge on St Kilda Pier for a reunion on Christmas Eve. The other is the story of a six-year-old girl who runs away from her outback farm to find her father who is a clown at Luna Park.
The production features Stefo Nantsou, Zeal co-founders Rob Dilley an Meg Dunn, actors from Swinburne University, National Theatre Drama School and St Kilda Primary School as well as a host of surprise guests who are ready to party.
St Kilda-based Nantsou, the creator of over 75 original productions has recently returned from a season of the award-winning production, The Stones at London’s National Theatre, and most recently, a Victorian tour of The Torch.
LUNA CLOWN is the first work to be produced as part of the Theatre Works Development Project supported by the City of Port Phillip. This Theatre Works initiative provides local artists with the resources to develop and perform new work free from financial responsibilities. The second stage will involve local improvisation performance groups, Born in a Taxi and Impro Melbourne, and will go into development in early February with performances later that month.
“LUNA CLOWN is a fantastic reflection of the energy and spirit that characterises the local arts community. This project is an excellent opportunity for Theatre Works to support and celebrate the exploration and creation of new local works,” said Heather Gourley, General Manager, Theatre Works.
A show for all ages, LUNA CLOWN is packed with music, comedy, a boot-full of great characters, and a splice of social commentary that will lift your spirits high and get you set to part.
