LALLY KATZ AND THE TERRIBLE MYSTERIES OF THE VOLCANO is the new show from award-winning independent theatre company, Stuck Pigs Squealing. It is a metaphysical fairy tale for adults, set in three timezones, in a post-apocalyptic Canberra. Featuring a rich live sound score by Jethro Woodward, lighting design by Richard Vabre and a fantastical design by Adam Gardnir, the audience is taken on a ride into a bittersweet world of memory, love and loss.

Katz wrote the first draft of LALLY KATZ AND THE TERRIBLE MYSTERIES OF THE VOLCANO in 2002 specifically for Kohn to direct. Says Kohn: “This is the first new Stuck Pigs Squealing show since 2004. It has been a long time in utero and is full of Katz' characteristic heartbreaking dialogue, improbable situations and multilayered meaning.”

The story of the play follows an unnamed childhood catastrophe in which a girl named Wendy is a sacrificed innocent. This trauma blows wide open the mind of a young girl/boy named Lally. A portal opens to a surreal, fluid and terrifying place peopled by spectres, lovers and cargo cults. It is another Canberra, trapped in an eternal landscape of tropical palms, church halls and volcanic ash.
