BREAKING UP IN BALWYN was essentially an ‘inverted’ wedding ceremony in the form of a divorce celebration. It was staged on a not uncommon venue for such, namely the party boat, ‘MV Yarra Princess’ motored up the Yarra River from the city to Hawthorn and back. Like the tram, characters boarded or exited the vehicle as it moved along. Although here those points of transition were much more limited (to jetties instead of tram stops).
"A toast to money, marriage and divorce."
