AFTER THE RAIN was originally written in Catalan in 1993 and then translated by Xavier Rodriguez Rosell, David George and John London in 1996. The script is set on the rooftop of a forty-nine storey office building. Here the workers of an un-named finance company congregate to indulge in illicit cigarettes, an act that has been banned for a number of years, especially in consideration of there being no rain for two years. Through smoking, this microcosm of office life is brought into relief as relationships are created and allegiances formed. The characters come to realise that they are not innocent of the world they have created or inherited, and that the cost of big business on the ecology is a high price to pay.
