7 – 16 November 2019
A woman dons a pleather outfit and hits the streets to protect women and kick some sleazy man butt.
Another woman is interrogated, she is suspected of murdering children.
A teenager creates a virtual world in which refugees can return home.
When is the time to hold vigil? To be vigilant? To be vigilante?
SHE IS VIGILANTE is a collection of short plays about women who stand up, rebel and kick ass. Sourced from new and emerging women writers, and developed and performed by a community-based ensemble of predominantly untrained performers. Their stories will move you from laughter to anger to standing up yourself.
In February 2019, Bridget Balodis and Krystalla Pearce put a call out for women writers to develop a series of short works to be presented at Theatre Works St Kilda in late 2019. The works will all centre on the topic of women vigilantes: Women who take the law into their own hands, fight for justice, do bad things because they have to – their missions can be global or minute, based on true stories or from another world completely.
The works will be developed and performed by predominantly untrained artists and developed through a combined process of devising and script-writing.
