Introducing Writer Wednesday!
From this week on, we’ll be getting to know a writer from our extremely talented She Writes cohort with special features across our website and social media.
Today, we’re excited to introduce Vanessa O’Neil.
How would you describe your writing?
“I write pieces of theatre that are bold and playful and heartfelt. I am excited by theatre that explores humanity in all of its joyous complexity.”
What are you working on right now?
“I have written a play based on Germaine Greer’s provocations. It is a verbatim piece called The Greer Effect which is based on Greer’s extensive archives. It juxtaposes Greer’s own words with responses to her work from women and men over the last fifty years. We recently received funding for a Creative Development and Playreading, but are currently waiting until it is possible for us to gather together in a rehearsal room and theatre.”
What have you gained from the She Writes experience?
“At a time when we are isolated from one another and no longer able to gather to see theatre, it has been wonderful to be able to (virtually) connect with a new group of fellow playwrights and dramaturgs. We have had a number of inspiring Zoom sessions run by a range of experienced theatre practitioners. Hearing about everyone’s various projects has been terrific. I have really appreciated feeling creatively connected at such a strange and challenging time.”
