We have been devastated to learn that Monash University is moving to shut down the Centre for Theatre and Performance at the end of this year.
A vital pathway for emerging artists, the CTP shares Theatre Works’ values of accessibility and stewardship in the arts. As a gateway organisation known for nurturing new careers in theatre, we have supported countless Monash alumni, staff and students over the years, and have been consistently blown away, not only by the talent of these artists – but the passion and dedication these emerging artists have for their craft.
The CTP and Monash Uni Student Theatre (MSA) are an intrinsic part of Theatre Work’s DNA. From our main stage productions year after year, to our volunteers every night in the foyer, to our associate artists, our venue technicians and members of our core staff, Theatre Works in itself is proof of the value that CTP’s open-access education and opportunities has in Melbourne’s theatrical landscape.
If the CTP closes at the end of the year, it will be a tremendous loss for the entire industry.
We can’t let this happen.
Take a stand with the students of the CTP as they lead a campaign to call for the Dean of Arts to withdraw the proposed disestablishment of the Theatre & Performance major.
