Writer Spotlight | Laura Lethlean

In a new weekly segment, get to know our 2022 She Writes cohort as we get the scoop on what they're working on in the collective. Kicking things off this week is Laura Lethlean.

Q: What is the working title of the project you are working on as part of TW's She Writes Collective?

A: Plunder

Q: In one sentence, can you tell us what your project is about?

A: Plunder is a semi-true story about deep sea mining, told with rhyming, rhythmic dialogue (inspired by the rippling water of its setting). With this play, I want to explore the moral transgressions that capitalism forces us to make.

Q: Favourite book or play of all time?

A: Too hard to choose one, but these three plays are always in my top five.

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller.

The Chapel Perilous by Dorothy Hewett.

Krapp’s Last Tape by Samuel Beckett.

Q: What are you currently listening to?

A: A beautiful best seller called Devotion by Hannah Kent (as an audiobook).

Q: Favourite writing spot?

A: When I am home alone, the standing desk in the spare room of my apartment is a great place to write from. Find out more about the 2022 She Writes Collective.
