Meet the Team: Out There

This week we’re spotlighting Out There created by Sean and Hollie Bryan of Brymore Productions.
The immersive fun of ‘Animal Crossing’ meets the loveable absurdity of ‘The Muppet Show’ in this black light space odyssey that’s bound to be a blast for earthlings of all ages!
Brymore Productions have been praised for their innovative and imaginative family friendly theatre. We’re so excited to see how their visual inspirations of 1960’s sci fi, rollercoasters, black light puppetry and neon translate to the Theatre Works stage. Also this might be the only show we’ve seen with a Space Consultant!
Out There was due to run from the 30th of June – 4th of July but we’re so excited to present it in the near future. Find out more about the team and their performance history here.

For today’s Meet the Team Monday, read the Out There artists bios below.

Hollie Bryan

Creator / Performer

Hollie launched into the world of family theatre when she co-founded Brymore Productions with Sean Bryan in 2015. Since then she’s gone on to create and perform in over 20 productions with the company, and appeared in numerous international festivals including the Adelaide Fringe, Perth Fringe World, and a consecutive three years of performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Hollie has helped develop and deliver performances and workshops for a variety of institutions including Exbury Gardens, The Mayflower Theatre, Queensland Music Festival/Youth Touring and The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre.

Prior to Brymore Productions Hollie worked in many different facets of the theatre, from stage managing for Imprint Theatricals in Brisbane to ushering on the West End. When not performing Hollie is a co-host on the Good For A Change podcast.

OUT THERE marks Hollie’s Theatre Works debut.

Sean Bryan

Creator / Performer

Making theatre for families and young audiences is lightyears away from what Sean thought he’d be doing when he graduated Swinburne University’s Diploma Of Theatre Arts course in 2009, but since then he’s rocketed around the world as a producer and theatre maker with credits in his home country of Australia as well as the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.

While on a break from traditional theatre producing Sean co-founded Brymore Productions with Hollie Bryan to begin creating and performing interactive and engaging works for young audiences, and he hasn’t looked back since, with the little company growing from performances in small, regional village halls to international theatres over the past five years.

Sean’s career started at Theatre Works as a production assistant on the Magnormos production of Life’s A Circus, and he returned as a co-producer on the Australasian Premiere of the Broadway musical [title of show], and as a producer on the world premiere of the new, Australian musical Margaret Fulton: Queen Of The Dessert. Sean is thrilled that OUT THERE marks his re-entry to Theatre Works programming, after orbiting the Earth for the last 8 years on other missions.

Jarrod Fairclough

Puppetry Consultant / Puppeteer

Jarrod Fairclough has been the editor of The Muppet Mindset website since 2015, through which he’s interviewed the likes of Cookie Monster, Abbie Cadabby and Elmo. As a puppeteer he’s worked on a number of short films both independently (including Brymore Productions Doin’ It For The Kids virtual festival) and alongside The Puppet Creation Lab. He has edited podcasts for Sesame Street and can also be heard as a host on the Good For A Change podcast. A trained animator, Jarrod studied for a Bachelor of Film (Animation) at Holmesglen, graduating in 2012.

We wish discovering how aliens breathe and move was the strangest thing we’d done with Jarrod, but with a friendship that began a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (well Tyabb is a lot closer now thanks to Peninsula Link) we can probably think of at least five other projects that were more out of this world, including a children’s TV show parody featuring puppeteered Sprite Bottles.

OUT THERE marks Jarrod’s Theatre Works debut.

Alex Milledge

Puppetry Design

Alex is a theatre maker from the south of England currently based in London. In 2017, she graduated with a first class honours BA in Drama, Theatre and Performance during which she flexed her creative muscles by experimenting with set and costume design, directing, puppet making and creating immersive narrative environments, stepping out of the black box and into the real world using site specific locations. Since then she has been collaborating and assisting theatre designers and visual artists to make everything from costumes to paper jellyfish.

Alex has created puppets for a number of Brymore Productions shows, but this time we’re really challenging her with discovering and recreating an entire extra terrestrial species to feature in OUT THERE, which then need transporting a distance 41 times further than the International Space Station is from the Earth’s surface…between London and Melbourne!

Alex’s additional Design Credits include: Little Wimmin– Pleasance Theatre 2019, Until The Flood- Arcola Theatre 2019, Coming Clean– Trafalgar Studios 2019, La Traviata- Kings Head Theatre 2018.

Marc Domènech Vadillo

Space Consultant

Space Consultant- Marc Domènech Vadillo

Marc is a rocket scientist. Not even kidding. He has two masters degrees, one in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Catalonia and one in Space Systems Engineering from the University of Southampton.

On this production Marc will be assisting us by creating a sense of realism in our spacecraft, and answering our numerous questions about the logistics of space, and how we recreate that in a theatre to take young audiences on an unforgettable, interstellar adventure.

OUT THERE at Theatre Works is Marc’s professional theatre debut, which may be one small step for a traditional performer, but one giant leap for someone qualified to actually send things to space.
